They say writing is like turning on a faucet with dirty pipes—you have to let the water run until it clears. At first, all you get is gunk and debris. That’s exactly how daily writing has felt for me: messy, inconsistent, and full of false starts.
With international travel and everything else going on, I’m aiming to average one post per day, even if it doesn’t happen literally every single day. There’s always the temptation to switch to a weekly cadence, and maybe I’ll go there eventually. But my resolution this year was to write daily, and for now, I’m committed to that goal.
The hardest part of daily writing is maintaining any kind of quality. It’s as difficult to dive deep in a blog post as it is in a tweet. The pressure to show up every day often makes me feel like I’m only skimming the surface of my ideas rather than exploring them in depth. But perhaps that’s okay.
The value of daily writing might not be in producing polished pieces every time but in building the habit, clearing out the clutter, and letting the clear water flow eventually. For now, I’ll keep the faucet running.
